THERE was drama in Bulawayo this morning as Kumalo Primary School headmistress Stella Mhlanga (63) and three staffers appeared in court facing serious fraud charges linked to missing school funds!
The embattled head, together with deputy head Enelesi Sibanda (56), teachers Nombulelo Maiswe (57), Siphatheleni Sibanda (52) and the school bursar Rumbidzai Magwaku (36), was arrested after a Ministry of Education audit exposed financial rot at the school.

Mhlanga and three co-accused were granted US$50 bail each on the condition they don’t interfere with witnesses and stay put at their given addresses.
Magwaku, the bursar, turned the tables and pleaded guilty, speeding up her case as the State is set to rule on her matter later today.
Their court appearance before Magistrate Beverly Madzikatire followed a February alert from the School Development Committee (SDC), which raised alarm bells over glaring irregularities in the school’s books.
Investigations snowballed into a full-blown fraud bust that’s rocked the Kumalo community.
The case was remanded to April 30.
