AWARD-winning Afro-jazz sensation Victor Kunonga and the recently re-united Qaya music duo Africa Revenge are set to headline the entertainment jamboree at Golden Peacock Hotel’s Club Glow in Mutare.
Kunonga and his band, Peace, will first perform tonight (Friday), back by popular demand after a brilliant show in February at the club, where they dazzled revellers with their well-polished vocals and attention-grabbing dance choreographies.
The Mayidarirei and Mamurega hit-maker, who is currently on his ‘‘coming out tour’’ around the country, has over the years blossomed to become one of the most-venerated afro-jazz artistes in the country.
With his unique style of fusing Chimurenga music and contemporary mbira fusion, Kunonga’s music has often been credited for its originality and deep-lyrics usually on social commentary.
Kunonga’s manager, Walter Wanyanya, confirmed the show and said the show would cater for those who failed to pay the $10 cover charge at their last show.
He said this would be a show for all and sundry with a reasonable $5 cover charge.
Afrika Revenge will perform on May 8.
The Qaya music duo of the Wanga and Anochengeta fame reunited last year in October after splitting in 2006.
The duo of Willis Wataffi and Mehluli Moyo will be performing for the first time in Mutare since they re-united.
At the time of their split Afrika Revenge was one of the promising Zimbabwean outfits to have top billing internationally.
In 2004 at the Zimbabwe Music Awards the group stole the show when they bagged four accolades, Song of the Year for ‘Wanga’, Best Jazz Album, Best Male Artist and Best Newcomer.
Club Glow spokesperson Chucky Aisha said all the shows were confirmed.
“We will not stop at Club Glow but will keep bringing you the top artistes to Mutare.
“Mutare revellers have been clamouring for Afrika Revenge since they reunited and now this will be their opportunity,” said Aisha.
