AWARD-winning Afro-jazz sensation, Victor Kunonga and his side-kick guitarist and vocalist, Norman Masamba, have promised fireworks for their Mutare show tonight (Friday) at Golden Peacock Hotel’s Club Glow.The show dubbed the ‘coming out tour’ is meant to present Kunonga to the people as he is set to embark on a countrywide and overseas tour this year.
Kunonga and his band, Peace, are back by popular demand after a brilliant show in February at the club.
The Mayidarirei and Mamurega hit-maker, like most venerated musicians has a side-kick, Masamba, that together often bring out those magical moments during shows with their attention-grabbing dance choreographies.
The 27-year-old Masamba who horned his guitar skills under the tutelage of ‘headmaster’, Bob Nyabinde, apart from playing for the Band Peace is also a solo musician, promising to be another big talent to merge in Zimbabwe’s music circles.
“Mutare should brace for an energetic show. As usual the quartet Band Peace will be there and nothing short of a five-star performance should be expected,” said Kunonga on Monday.
Kunonga who has over the years blossomed to become one of the most-venerated afro-jazz artistes in the country since he entered the industry in 2004 has four albums with his latest offing Kwedu launched in December last year.
Kunonga’s manager, Walter Wanyanya, said the $5 cover charge was meant to cater for everyone.
“The last time in February $10 proved to be a bit heft. So on this ‘coming out tour’ $5 is meant to accommodate all revellers.
“We want to take Kunonga’s music to all parts of Zimbabwe and Mutare is at the heart of that focus,” said Wanyanya.
