Kusantoni auditions get overwhelming response

Kusantoni is a screenplay by former Amakorokoza editor, Ndumiso Ncube, about a college student Nomusa Sibanda who is involved with a rich man Danisa Tshuma played by Julian Tshuma.

Danisa is her neighbour and a member of the same church as her family. All hell breaks loose when Danisa’s wife Grace, who is going to be played by Benhilda Ngwenya from Inhlanhla, finds out and spills the beans to the whole family.

Auditions were carried out at Fingers Hair Salon in the city on 30 June and Salukazi Cultural Centre in Njube on 9 July.

In an interview recently, Ncube said he had started giving out the script of the play to the cast and rehearsals would begin at the end of the month.

He said the auditions had an overwhelming response although there were was a need for older people for the older characters in the screenplay.

“We had an overwhelming response from the people who came for the auditions and we would like to thank them. Rehearsals will begin at the end of the month and I have started giving  scripts to the cast. The only thing that we did not have were older people to fill in the older characters,” said Ncube.

He said most of those who had auditioned were good on stage and some had been on television productions before.

“Most of the actors have been on television and others have been on stage. So that makes my job easier in the sense that I am not teaching people how to act but how to adapt to the format of a screenplay,” said Ncube.

He said filming will be from 6 to 26 November and the film will premiere between January and February next year.

“During the Christmas holiday we shall be hard at work in the studio editing and all that. We still appeal to sponsors to chip in with wardrobe, make-up, food and transport for the actors.

“Sponsorship is not about money but about people chipping in with other things as well,” said Ncube.

Locations that have been identified for scenes of the film include Ascot, Suburbs, and a hair saloon in the city and some in the western areas.
