Kwekwe duo jailed 25 years each for murder of mediator

Two men from Kwekwe, the Midlands province, who killed a man who intervened and tried to stop them from assaulting another man, have been jailed to 25 years in prison each by the Special High Court Circuit in Gweru.

The Midlands Special High Court Circuit has two judges stationed in Gweru and another in Gokwe to deal with the high number of murder cases in the province.

In a post on X, the National Prosecuting Authority of Zimbabwe (NPAZ) said the murder occurred on 3 December, 2022 when the deceased, Blessing Muza and his brothers were at Mbizo Inn Club in Kwekwe.

Muza went outside to relieve himself and saw Obey Mtombeni (29) and Prosper Honye (24) assaulting Tinotenda Nyama.

He tried to intervene and the assailants turned on him. They assaulted him with clenched fists all over the body before they stabbed him on the left side of the chest. Muza managed to escape and ran back to his brothers who rushed him to hospital where he was pronounced dead upon arrival.

Meanwhile, the NPAZ said John Manyere (62) from Triangle in Masvingo province, who is employed by sugar manufacturer Tongaat Hullets as a loss control officer, was jailed for two years imprisonment by the Chiredzi magistrates’ court for culpable homicide.
