A Kwekwe man has been arrested for allegedly fatally stabbing his victim from with an okapi knife following an altercation over stolen clothes.
Midlands Provincial police spokesperson Inspector Emmanuel Mahoko, confirmed the murder and the subsequent arrest of the perpetrator.
“Zimbabwe Republic Police confirms a case of murder where a man died after he was stabbed with an okapi knife on February 18 at about 12:30 am and the suspect was arrested within 24 hours thereafter,” he said.
Insp Mahoko said the murder occurred near Roman Catholic Church, Newtown in Kwekwe.
He said the now deceased was identified as Future Makupe also known as Chikule of Chidoma Village, Chitekete area in Gokwe.
Insp Mahoko added that the suspect in the case is Liberman Ncube also known as Likwa (31) of Manga Village in Kwekwe.
“Allegations are that on February 18 at around 12:30 am, a passerby discovered a dead body lying in a pool of blood and informed the police,” he said.
Insp Mahoko said preliminary investigations by the police picked the identity of the suspect alleged to have stabbed the victim after the two had had an altercation over theft of some clothes.
He added that follow – ups were made leading to the arrest of the suspect, the same day at about 6 pm.
“A blood stained Okapi knife was recovered from the suspect and recorded as an exhibit,” he said.
“Once again, we call upon members of the public to resolve disputes in a peaceful manner. Also may anyone with information related to the murder incident get in touch with ZRP in Kwekwe.”
