A KWEKWE man has been given a second chance to fulfill his parental responsibilities after he got a wholly suspended sentence for ignoring a child maintenance order.

According to the National Prosecuting Authority of Zimbabwe (NPAZ), the 39-year-old man from Redcliff was sentenced to six months’ imprisonment at the Kwekwe Magistrates’ Court for contempt of court after failing to comply with a maintenance order.
“On the 3rd of February 2025, the Kwekwe Magistrate’s court ordered the offender to pay maintenance of US$80 monthly for their minor child, whose mother is 19 years old. The offender subsequently failed to comply with this court order, having only paid USD85, resulting in arrears of USD160,” reads the statement.

The offender was subsequently sentenced to six months imprisonment for the offence, which was wholly suspended on condition he pays the arrears before 30 May.
