Lack of funding hampers anti-crime operations

operations, which it had targeted to complete by year-end.
BACFOZ, a partnership between business organisations and the Zimbabwe Republic Police, was launched in June last year with the aim of detecting and curtailing corporate crime.
Business associations represented in the forum include the Zimbabwe National Chamber of Commerce, Zimba-bwe Tourism Authority, the Confederation of Zimbabwe Industries and the Cross-Border Traders’ Association.
BACFOZ chairperson Mr Oswald Binha said the forum had failed to mobilise resources for the decentralisation.
“Most business member organisations were not represented in the forum at a senior level and this made it difficult for them to assist the forum financially,” he said.
“This has resulted in not much being done on the ground and we are now behind schedule,” he added.
Mr Binha said the forum had intended to capacitate the police structure that it would be working with.
“We also wanted to mobilise resources so that we could hold awareness campaigns on their operations,” he said.
He said efforts were being made to change the forum’s structure.
“We will engage the Business Council of Zimbabwe so that its members can play a pivotal role in the operations of the forum.
“Business organisations should be given decision-making positions and the Zimbabwe Republic Police should remain a strategic partner,” said Mr Binha. – New Ziana.
