FOLLOWING their recent dismal performance at the Rugby Africa Women’s Sevens tournament, Zimbabwe’s Lady Cheetahs dropped three places down the ladder to assume position eight.

As a result, the Zimbabwe women’s sevens rugby team missed out on qualifying for the 2020 Tokyo Olympics World Rugby Sevens.

The women’s sevens contest took place in Monastir in Tunisia from 12 to 13 October where 12 African teams which included Kenya, Uganda, Ghana, Madagascar, Zimbabwe, Senegal, Botswana, Zambia, Morocco, Mauritius, South Africa and the hosts Tunisia took part.

After an impressive first round 12-7 triumph over Zambia, Derek Chiwara’s charges went on to fall 31-0 at the hands of South Africa’s lady Springboks.

As if that was not enough, Zimbabwe went on to lose to Uganda two times (10-5, 7-0) before they succumbed 36-5 at the hands of Kenya.

Morocco added more misery into the lady Cheetahs camp when they walloped the latter 22-4 in a tournament where South Africa came out as the eventual winners.

Mzansi edged Kenya 15-14 in the final match played at Mustapha Ben Jannet Stadium.
