LAM to resume Harare flights

would initially ply the designated routes three times a week, after which consideration will be made to either maintain the timetable or adjust it depending on response from the market.
He said the flights will be available on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Sundays.
“We will capitalise on the situation currently obtaining in the airline industry in the region, and assess the fruits to be reaped out of them.
“There have been indications that such a service is long overdue on our part, and we are here to satisfy the prevalent market. And with the coming to the region of the United Nations World Tourism General Assembly, the opportunity cannot have come at a better time for us,” he said.
Mr Guefate, who was speaking on the sidelines of the fifth edition of the Sanganai/Hlanganani World Travel and Tourism Africa Fair organised by the Zimbabwe Tourism Authority in Harare last week, said a local travel and tour company, Travel Connection, has been appointed the Zimbabwe agent for LAM.
Speaking from Johannesburg, South Africa, the airline’s chief executive officer, Ms Marlene Mendes Manave, said the company’s ongoing restructuring exercise, coupled with the financial restructuring carried out in the first half of this financial year, has enabled the creation of an enabling environment for an effective response to the rapid growth of LAM air traffic.
She said her company had put on offer  32 000 promotional tickets to be sold until the end of this month, while a 65 percent discount has been put for trips to be made until the end of the year.
“We have also redesigned the network in order to increase capacity, making available more flights to each destination where LAM operates. This will be possible with the introduction of more aircraft in our fleet, allowing a better combination between 100 and 50 seats aircraft type in our operation and MEX, a subsidiary of LAM.
“With this campaign, we are making air transport services more accessible, and restating our commitment to promoting social development, the spirit of solidarity and a guarantee of national unity,” she said.
LAM, which already services such routes as Mecufi, Mecula, Nampula, Songo, Johannesburg, Madagascar, Vienna and Vietnam, joins other airlines now flying into the country such as United Arab Emirates. Owing to the suspension of operations to regional and international destinations by Air Zimbabwe due to financial challenges, such airlines have capitalised on this and, in some instances, doubled the number of times they land in Harare.
