Land baron Godwin Khulame (30) has been sentenced to an effective 24 months in prison for defrauding home seekers of over US$16 670 in a fake residential stands scheme.

Khulame appeared before the Harare Magistrates Court on four counts of fraud.

The court heard that between 2022 and 2023, Khulame advertised non-existent Nyabira residential stands on Facebook and WhatsApp to lure unsuspecting buyers.

His victims, including some who are based outside the country, paid thousands of dollars, only to discover that Khulame had defrauded them.

None of the victims recovered their money.
