FALCON College turned the heat on Christian Brothers College with a resounding victory in a Matabeleland Schools rugby trials match played at CBC on Saturday.
The Brendan Dawson coached Mad Dogs were just too strong for the Simbarashe Dangah mentored Hornets. Falcon College scored nine tries, six conversions in a match they completely dominated.
Wing Kwesi Owusu went over the line twice while hooker Aaron Juma, lock Ryan Dawson, number eight Travis Rainford, centre Chitembwe Mupeso, replacement scrumhalf Kieran du Boil, flyhalf Tinomukudza Chipfumbu and Mzwandile Mabuza scored a try each.
Scrumhalf Joshua Allardice kicked in three conversions, Chipfumbu booted in two while Du Boil added one set of extra points.
In other first team matches played at CBC yesterday, Milton beat Plumtree 38-7 while Petra thumped Western Suburbs Select 33-22.
The trials saw Under-14, Under-17 and Under-19 Matabeleland teams to represent the region at national trials to be held in Harare as well as Esigodini on Friday and Saturday. For the Under-14, they will be at Heritage in Harare while Falcon College is the venue for the Under-17 and Under-13 trials. From there, the national selectors will choose teams for the Coca-Cola Youth Weeks in South Africa.-@Mdawini_29
