THE National Football Association of Zimbabwe (Nafaz) today confirmed receipt of an appeal from Harare giants against a fans’ ban following crowd trouble when they lost to FC Platinum in Harare last month.
Dynamos had been ordered to play in an empty stadium by the Premier Soccer League and the appeal means they will now play against Ngezi Platinum in front of their passionate supporters on Sunday.
The match, almost certain to be an emotional one following the tragic death of Dynamos supporters in a road accident in Battlefields last Saturday, is set for Rufaro Stadium. The fans were on their way to Gweru to cheer the Harare giants in their league clash against Chapungu at Ascot Stadium when tragedy struck.
“We have their appeal, but we are going to issue a statement tomorrow that’s all I can say for now,” said Nafaz general secretary Kennedy Ndebele.
The Harare giants made full use of the PSL Status Article 49, Part Four which gives aggrieved parties the right to lodge an appeal with the national association’s appeals committee.
However, Nafaz is yet to set up sub-committees, including the Appeals Committee, and a meeting of the executive committee is reportedly scheduled for Saturday to constitute the various sub-committees.
“If Dynamos’ appeal has been received then it means the disciplinary committee’s decision will be set aside until their appeal is heard by the Appeals Committee, which will likely come to life on Saturday at the executive committee meeting,” said a source.
