Lawyer implicated in $15m property scam

Crime Reporter
SIX suspects including a Harare lawyer are under investigation on allegations of processing fake or stolen documents to sell 10 flats and other property in Harare worth $15 million belonging to a local company. The houses, most of them which are in the city’s leafy suburbs, belong to a land developer and construction company. Police are yet to question the six

suspects.

Sources close to the investigations on Thursday said some of the suspects were former senior officials of the company. They are accused of conniving to sell the houses without the knowledge of company directors. Although police spokesperson Senior Assistant Commissioner Charity Charamba could not comment on the matter, sources close to investigations confirmed the fraud case.

The company accuses people of stealing title

deeds to property owned by the company and having these properties sold. The company also accuses the six of trying to put the company into liquidation. In June this year, the High Court dismissed the application since it was not clear.
