Lawyers for electoral committee

EMINENT lawyers will make up Zifa’s Electoral committee but its appointment does not signal the start of the voting season, the soccer governing body’s legal advisor Itai Ndudzo said last night.

The Zifa secretariat is expected to announce the members of the committee today after they have been formally informed.

Speaking after yesterday’s AGM Ndudzo said: “The issue of elections was on the agenda. It was agenda number 14 and the Congress has agreed that the correct position in terms of Section 25 (5) of the constitution is that elections are conducted, supervised and managed by the Electoral Committee.

“The Congress also agreed that it is the responsibility of the Zifa Executive Committee to appoint the Electoral Committee, which has been appointed today (yesterday).”

The Electoral Committee will also determine the positions that will be contested for, added Ndudzo.

“They will be on overall charge and will determine whose positions are vacant, who is eligible and when the elections will be held.

“The Electoral Committee will sit and scrutinise the constitution and determine the process to be used,” he said.

Turning to the lifting of Peter Dube’s suspension, the Zifa lawyer insisted that it does not mean that the administrator bounces back into his previous positions of Premier Soccer League and Highlanders chairman.

“Peter Dube’s suspension was lifted according to the provisions of our constitution which says that a suspension is lifted if another congress comes without a suspended member being brought before a disciplinary hearing.

“What it means is that Dube is free to participate in football activities once again but we cannot speak of what Highlanders or the Premier Soccer League intend to do with him. Those are Zifa affiliates but Zifa does not dictate to them how they should conduct their business,” said Ndudzo.
