Sadc leaders congratulate President Mugabe, hail peaceful poll

The 33rd Summit of Sadc Heads of State and Government opened at the Bingu wa Mutharika International Conference Centre here this morning with speaker after speaker congratulating President Mugabe and Zanu-PF for resoundingly winning the harmonised elections which were hailed as free and peaceful.
First to the podium was outgoing Sadc executive secretary Dr Tomaz Salamao, who introduced host President Dr Joyce Banda, then African Union Commission chairperson Dr Nkosazana Dlamini-Zuma, who, in turn, was followed by outgoing chairperson Cde Armando Guebuza.
After the opening speeches, Cde Guebuza handed the chairpersonship badge to Dr Banda before delegates broke for lunch after which they went into a closed session.
