Small to Medium Enterprises (ZNASME) was not asked to plead and remanded to February 8 on US$300 bail.
Gweru magistrate Ms Florence Nago ordered him to remain at his given address and not to interfere with witnesses as part of his bail conditions.
Mukarakati was represented by Mr Pasmore Mabukwa of Mabukwa and Attorneys.
The State alleged that Mukarakati duped the Lebanese, Mr Samuel Gatas after he invested US$22 000 into his Sungano Motel in Shurugwi town.
Mr Gatas again injected US$11 000 into Mukarakati’s other business ventures after he convinced him that it was safe for him to work only as a partner to protect the business.
This was after he misrepresented facts and indicated to Mr Gatas that it was not safe under the Zanu-PF government to invest in his name in Zimbabwe.
He later tried to have Mr Gatas arrested and deported after he confronted him demanding his money back.
Mr Gatas tried to take the legal route, but Mukarakati told him that a top Zanu-PF official had instructed him to leave the country with immediate effect or face deportation.
This prompted Mr Gatas to report the matter to the police.
