ONLY Ali Hamid put some resistance to the leg-spin of Alex Russell as Tuskers went down to Eagles by an innings and 205 runs in their Logan Cup match at Queens Sports Club in Bulawayo on Sunday.
They began the day on 80 for four in their second innings, Clive Madande having 11 and Hamid three, and the match was over before lunch.
The overnight batters did well to take the score to 131 before Russell broke through, pushing a ball through to bowl Madande for 24.
Three more batters went quickly, two of them to Russell, before Arnold Shara showed more resistance by scoring 11 while adding 35 runs for the ninth wicket with Hamid.
Russell finally bowled Shara, his fifth wicket for 63 runs in the innings, but he could not remove Hamid, who was last out, caught near the midwicket boundary off Tony Munyonga.
He scored 76 off only 59 balls, with 12 fours, and the innings closed for 190.
Russell took 10 wickets.
Meanwhile, at Kwekwe Sports Club Vincent Masekesa enjoyed another five-wicket haul as Rhinos never looked like challenging the 326 runs they needed for victory against Mountaineers
They began the day with eight runs on the board in their second innings and their opening partnership still intact, but it did not last long.
Tendai Chatara made the initial breakthrough, removing Takudzwanashe Kaitano and Solomon Mire within three balls with the score on 16.
There followed some resistance as Ben Curran (30) and Antum Naqvi (33) took the score to 63, but Masekesa removed them both.
Six wickets were down for 118, and at this point Rhinos were virtually down and out.
The end was delayed by Nyasha Mayavo with 46 and Brad Evans with 30, both hitting enterprisingly, but then Michael Frost with his left-arm spin dismissed them both.
Masekesa whipped out the last two batters quickly, and the innings was over for 182, Mountaineers gaining a very comfortable victory.
Frost took three for 53, while Masekesa had five for 63, giving him match figures of 12 wickets for 180 runs.
