ORGANISERS of the Ecobank Legends Night have said preparations for the event are now at an advanced stage.
The event, which started as a tribute to the late Oliver Mtukudzi, is set for April 6 at the Harare International Conference Centre.
Joseph Chinouriri, a founder member of InTotal band, who is known for his saxophone skills, said this is just a way of appreciating and celebrating an icon of music in Zimbabwe.
“The Legends Night started off in 2019 when Oliver Mtukudzi passed away.
“I used to play for Mtukudzi before he passed away.
“So, it started off as a tribute for Dr Oliver and it was called the Tuku Show and it focused on his music.
“Then, over the years, we realised it’s not only his music that needs to be celebrated.
“So, for us, it was what can we do to celebrate all the legends together and that is why we came up with the Legends Night.”
He added:
“We have music that we grew up listening to and the best thing we could do is to honour the pioneers of this music and this is Legends Night is for.
“It brings out some of the hidden expertise we have and the turnout has always been good because everyone loves old school music.
“The concert will be recorded for social media, ensuring that the event reaches a wider audience.”
