MODEL Calvin Njovo is engaging young people in the fight against drug abuse and addiction as he braces for the upcoming Mr Zimbabwe contest set for March 29.
The 24-year-old Kadoma-based founder of Calvin Skiri Foundation is an advocate in the fight against drug and substance abuse.
He is the reigning Mr Kadoma, the People’s Choice Award winner at Mr Heritage Zimbabwe 2024, and a finalist in Misters of Zimbabwe 2025.
Last week, he visited a children’s home in his home area as part of his mission to impart knowledge and awareness.
“Earlier, I shared my journey, how my brother’s battle with addiction inspired me to take action and establish the Calvin Skiri Foundation.
“Our mission remains clear, standing strong against drugs and healthcare without barriers.
“Since then, we have actively engaged in awareness campaigns and community outreach.
“On February 23, 2025, we took a significant step forward by visiting Tariro Children’s Home.
“This visit was more than just a moment of charity but it was a reflection of our commitment to empowering the next generation.
“Together, with my team, we spent the day having lunch with the children, engaging in meaningful conversations about drug abuse, leadership and personal empowerment and sharing moments of joy through games and activities.
“The experience was deeply fulfilling.
“Seeing the smiles on the children’s faces and hearing their thoughts on leadership and overcoming challenges reassured me that this fight against addiction and social barriers is worth every effort,” he said.
He added:
“As I prepare to contest in Misters of Zimbabwe on March 29, 2025, I do so with a renewed sense of purpose.
“I believe in a Zimbabwe that recognises the value of its people and their potential and I will use this platform to raise awareness and challenge the stigma surrounding addiction.
“Through Misters of Zimbabwe, I aim to inspire others to embrace leadership, advocate for change and contribute to building a healthier and more united society that proudly represents Brand Zimbabwe on the global stage.
“I am committed to advancing the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals, particularly, Goal 3 (Good Health and Well-being), by promoting health equity and combating substance abuse.
“I also pledge to support the National Drug Master Plan (2021-2025), working alongside key advocates like Dr Wellington Rukadza (ZIYADA) and Dr Jenfan Muswere (Inter-Ministerial Task Force on Drugs).”
