OLD Georgians captain Jacques Leitao has commended his team for defeating Old Hararians 36-32 in a highly-contested National Rugby League match at Harare Sports Club over the weekend.Leitao said the game was a tough contest.
“We knew it was going to be a tough game and we needed to put more pressure in our way of play, thanks to the team for their hard work,” said the skipper.
“I was very happy with the boys, they have been working really hard and it was a tight close game. We have got three wins this season, we lost one to Sports Club so it is good to get back on track with a win against one of the top teams from last year.
“We regroup this week and we are looking forward to our next assignment.”
Old Georgians have 16 points and Fortune Chipendu believes they have good chances of winning the remaining fixtures.
“Our match against Old Hararians was a big game for us because we lost to them in the final last year. We came prepared as we had the whole week of training session and we polished up all the mistakes that we made in our match against Sports Club.
“We did well and it was a very good game in the end, from our scrums we were really solid, and our back three worked together to see that we win.
“Our lineouts were also good.”
The Old Boys are on 17 points and trail rivals Harare Sports Club who have 21 points.
Western Panthers have 14 points while Busters have 12 points.
Mutare Sports Club are on nine points while Gweru Sports Club have six.
Zvishavane are still to pick a point.
Old Hararians captain Tichafara Makwaya said they paid a price for losing their focus.
“We lost it upfront, we got dominated in the forwards, and credit to OG’s for their efforts. Once you lose it upfront then you cannot really get back into the game.
“Our backs tried to make things happen but it just couldn’t come off but it was a learning curve for us and, hopefully, we will get better after this. When you lose you are hoping to bounce back,” said Makwaya.
