MORE than twice on Sunday, Leroy Mavunga made it abundantly clear that his blood is turning blue at Ngoni.

This is hardly love at first sight. It has been a slow burn, simmering away for weeks.

Against MWOS, the affection was on full display as he toyed with the opposition to the delight of a roaring, blue-and-white army.

Clad appropriately in red, the Dynamos’ away kit, he hinted this would not be their last date.

“When you are playing for these fans, they demand a win,” Mavunga told Zimpapers Sports Hub exclusively.

The winger may not be the reincarnation of Denver Mukamba, but there were glimpses of brilliance that could have sent supporters rifling through the memory banks.

“When we wear these shirts, we try to get a win for them, no matter the situation,” he said.

“So no matter the result, they keep on supporting us, whether we win, we draw or lose. So we must always play for them.”

Mavunga capped it with a goal that immediately generated debate.

Was it him or Christopher Nettey?

The cross was delivered by Nettey, and he got the final touch to give DeMbare the opener.

The criticism of Mavunga has long been his inability to be decisive when it matters.

Yet his body language has been telling an entirely different story since the arrival of the new coach, Aristica Cioaba.

The former Yadah star has come a long way, and this could just be the season that redefines him.

“I feel very happy. I thank God for this win,” said Mavunga.

In the coming weeks, perhaps months, the Dynamos faithful will look back and realise they have fallen in love, properly.

Questions will be asked whether it was Romanian coach Cioaba’s effect, or simply a fresh start that demanded everyone to make a new impression.

History, on the other hand, will still record that Mavunga owes much of his development to Genesis Mangombe. And why he suddenly came to life after his departure will remain one of football’s mysteries.

Some love affairs are better left unexplained.
