Let’s be responsible

Adam Ndlovu. We also wish Peter Ndlovu a speedy recovery.
That tyre burst on the fateful day robbed the country of great sportsperson.
I also understand that some members of the Utakataka Express band are nursing wounds sustained after the vehicle they were in veered off the road following a tyre burst.

For everyone who will be travelling this festive season some lessons should be drawn from this. Naturally, I would say let us be conscious of the tyres we bet our lives on.
If you are using fake tyres, PLEASE, consider investing in a good set.
Zimbabwe needs you in 2013 for the continuation of the rebuilding process.
As a result, there are two behavioural issues that  worry me about the festive season we have just entered.

Road Carnage
The first has to do with the road carnage statistics that we have to deal with each year due to reckless behaviour on our roads and the second is the huge amount of money that the country tends to lose due to our spending behaviours during the festive season. However, I feel we can all contribute to putting a positive twist to our holidays by acting and buying responsibly.
Mimosa Mining Company’s Let’s Go Zero Campaign and the Buy Zimbabwe ZIMBHO Promotion happen to aim to address these two respective issues that are a cause for many like myself.
Mimosa is taking the Let’s Go Zero — Zero Road Carnage campaign to Zvishavane on December 31 2012.

Clearly, Mimosa is committed to ensuring that its entire staff returns from the holidays in one piece. The campaign seeks to create awareness on the dangers of negligence on the road especially during this period that traditionally has become a source of pain for the country.

The ZIMBHO Promotion, on the other hand, is going all out to ensure our local products enjoy their deserved visibility and retain favourable control of the market share this festive season.
Three cheers go to My Own Boss 2012 final task challenger Smanga Zhou for spearheading this exciting promotion which not only brings great prizes to loyal consumers but also adds value to participating local brands.

Fantastic Prizes
The ZIMBHO promotion was initiated as a final task on the popular My Own Boss entrepreneurial television reality series has been running since the conclusion of the show on November 17, 2012.
Consumers of local products who do their Christmas shopping in any of the following OK Stores — OK First Street, OK Fife Avenue and OK Kwame Nkrumah — stand a chance to win a brand new Hyundai i10 and various other fantastic prizes.

To shoppers in these outlets, I encourage you to look out for the ZIMBHO merchandising team in store who are in place to assist with details of the promotion and for a clear understanding of the Buy Zimbabwe initiative and what it means for Zimbabwe this festive season.
Two weeks ago, we hosted a successful Buy Zimbabwe — University of Zimbabwe Sports and Fun Festival at the UZ sports ground.

Our joint appreciation as Buy Zimbabwe and the University of Zimbabwe go to all the exhibitors, participating teams, the media and our sports officials for making this event a first time success. The sporting talent at the event was great despite the fact that it was really just a fun festival.
I would like to encourage our local companies to be as competitive on the market as they are on the sporting field.

Marathon
I saw some serious talent that would even make our Olympic teams green with envy especially in the 8km marathon, the women’s 100m race and in the soccer competition.
I was left to eat the dust in the 8km marathon making me realise that my high school days are definitely a thing of the past.

I am, however, preparing seriously for the 2013 edition of the sports and fun festival which Buy Zimbabwe and the University of Zimbabwe promise will be grander than ever.
So till next week, Zimbabwe enjoy your Christmas holidays.
Live, work, share, enjoy and buy responsibly. . . I know I will.
