LET’S CRUSH THE FOREX MANIPULATORS, SAYS MINISTER

MASHONALAND East Provincial Affairs and Devolution Minister, Apollonia Munzverengwi, says forex dealers were in a spirited campaign to try and sabotage the country’s economy and have to be stopped.

She said this at the ZRP Murehwa District Police Chiefs Indaba, where she was the guest of honour yesterday.

Police, traditional chiefs, Reserve Bank of Zimbabwe (RBZ), the Zimbabwe Gender Commission (ZGC), Zimbabwe Anti-Corruption Commission (ZACC), Human Rights, church leaders and other stakeholders discussed ways to prevent crime in the district.

“I am happy to note that our Central Bank, the Reserve Bank of Zimbabwe, is represented here.

“I am, thus, hopeful that what the officials are going to articulate here will go a long way in raising the desired awareness that binds us to individually and collectively play an important role in ring-fencing our sacred currency against conducts that border on sabotage.

“To this end, I call upon the Zimbabwe Republic Police and all relevant stakeholders to deal decisively with all malcontents.

“The challenge of money changers, and those who wilfully distort the exchange rate, behoves us all to rally behind the Government’s efforts.

“In the same vein, as you deliberate on pertinent policing matters, I appeal to each and every one of us here present to think deeply about ways of averting the potential danger that can befall our beloved country if we proffer solutions that are not sufficiently curative to the menace of drug and substance abuse that is afflicting our society.

“Let us not delude ourselves into believing that we are somehow immune to the effects of drug and substance abuse.

“The problem is real and is upon us.”

She said the event has brought together 17 chiefs from the district’s policing area — Murehwa, Mudzi, Mutoko, Zvataida (UMP) and part of Goromonzi.
