Deputy Minister of Information and Communication Technologies, Postal and Courier Services Dingumuzi Phuthi, who doubles up as a musician, has urged fellow artistes to get vaccinated for Covid-19.
The artiste, who is also a Zimbabwe Music Rights Association board member, said fellow artistes have been pleading with Government to open up the arts sector, but this can only be done once herd immunity is achieved.
Vaccination has become a must as the nation moves to curb the spread of Covid-19. Over 1,9 million people have so far received their first jab while over 1,1 million people have got the two doses.
The recording artiste said artistes who rely on performances should understand the need for them to be vaccinated and importance of urging their fans to do the same.
“The level four lockdown measures are slowly being relaxed as some places like churches are now allowed to open only for vaccinated congregants. This should be an eye-opener to artistes who rely on shows that they should be vaccinated and also encourage their fans to do so,” said the Deputy Minister, who is popularly known as DJ Phuti in entertainment circles.
Serving as the Bulilima West legislator, Phuthi said it is his role as a servant of the nation to encourage people to get vaccinated.
“President Mnangagwa during his recent address pertaining to the lockdown emphasised on legislators to educate the public on vaccination and this is exactly what I’m doing. The ball is in each and everyone’s court to get vaccinated so that we achieve herd immunity and head back to our old days.”
The artiste who recently released his Dokojena album said the album is performing well as it is getting airplay on local stations that in the past, did not give much attention to Kalanga music.
“The Dokojena album has been playing day in, day out on stations that include Skyz Metro FM, National FM and Power FM. I’m pleased by the support. It’s an honour to see that Kalanga music is being appreciated all over the country,” said DJ Phuti. — @mthabisi_mthire
