Mtshede Primary School gets online portal

MTSHEDE Primary School in Bulawayo’s Njube suburb has come up with its own e-learning portal for pupils to easily access school materials.

The project is being led by a Bulawayo-based Information Communication and Technology (ICT) consultant Mr Robert Ndlovu.

A month ago, Mr Ndlovu also introduced the programme at Mzilikazi Primary School where he is also the School Development Committee chairperson.

The growth of e-learning platforms has been steady over the years. The Covid-19 pandemic has accelerated the need and usage of online educational platforms.

The pandemic has forced organisations to work from home and schools have no choice but to adopt remote learning under the new normal.

Yesterday, Mr Ndlovu held a workshop for teachers on how to upload material for pupils.

He also said the programme would make it easier for parents to get messages from the school.

“Through this portal, teachers would be able to conduct virtual meetings with parents and this is what is called bulk alert messages,” said Mr Ndlovu.

He said as more teachers in different schools get to appreciate e-learning, it makes teaching easy.

“As more schools pick up the momentum, it becomes faster,’ he said.

Mtshede School Development Committee chairperson Mr Nkosizile Khumalo said he is happy with digital learning as pupils are now able to access reading materials through it.

“As parents we welcome and we are happy to start this digital learning as pupils will continue learning even through this Covid-19 era,” he said.

A teacher who spoke on condition of anonymity said this was a good development.

“Pupils can bring their memory sticks to school and teachers put information so they would go and listen while at their homes,” said a teacher  — @karubwa.
