MANICALAND provincial patron on the environment Mrs Rosina Mugadza has urged communities across the province to take greater responsibility for environmental protection, saying cleanliness is a patriotic duty and the most befitting way to honour the country’s liberation heroes.
She was speaking during a clean-up campaign held at the Mutare Provincial Heroes Acre this morning, ahead of Heroes Day commemorations on Monday.
Mrs Mugadza said environmental conservation must become a way of life for every citizen.
She said this month’s clean-up was particularly significant as the country prepares to commemorate Heroes and Zimbabwe Defence Forces days.
The clean-up was held under the theme: “Green Travelling and Eco-Friendly Gatherings: Honouring Our Heroes in a Clean Environment.”
Mrs Mugadza said national monuments, shrines and memorial sites were sacred places that embody the nation’s history, sacrifice and identity, and must remain clean, dignified and well maintained at all times.
“Every piece of litter we pick, every tree we plant, every wetland we protect and every illegal dump we eliminate contributes to building the Zimbabwe we desire,” said Mrs Mugadza, urging communities to make environmental conservation a continuous practice as the country move towards the attainment of Vision 2030.
