Let’s shape the world through music

there while the performers are singing or playing the instruments, and when the last note dies away the music would be gone.
Yet something remains even though many of the details may be forgotten.

A composer has to find the right notes in the right order if he is to prevent his music floating off into oblivion. Formlessness is the result of too much material and not enough order, therefore one of the most important things in music is economy.
The order of the notes in an economical tune can create a satisfying shape that stands out in listeners’ minds, even at a first hearing.
Composers, like architects, plan the shape of their work according to the purpose for which it has been ordered.

Bach harmonised hymn tunes because he earned his living as an organist and had to provide something for the congregation to sing on Sunday.
Every composer thinks of the practical conditions of performance before beginning to write. This means that every piece of music has not only its own shape but also its texture. This refers to the dark colour of a piece of music.

Although there is nothing to be seen by the eye, in music, critics talk of dark and light textures even though there is nothing to be felt between the fingers.
I wonder if there are any composers out there who have a heart for the younger generation.
It seems commercialisation demands that every musician focus on composing music that celebrates and highlights issues to do with love.

To be popular one must ride on the love theme.
Composing music has become a way to identify and develop a personal status rather than a means to educate and promote acceptable values within our land.

The need for musicians to deliberately consider composing music that enriches and inspires the younger generation is critical. In the midst of their personal development, the fight against HIV and Aids and other issues, music stands out as a source of inspiration and motivation.

The language use and depth that musicians are currently using leaves a lot to be desired.
Why is it that musicians are failing to compose music that is relevant to our future leaders?

This is not just a local challenge but rather a worldwide crisis.
Besides using music as a form of entertainment it can also be used as a tool for education. Parents are losing sleep trying to make sure that their children develop into responsible and educated members of society.

Sad to say while these children may have all they need from a parental point of view, music steps in and writes an immoral story.
Get as creative as you want. Use the best session musicians you can get in town and you need to go to the best studios.

There is need to work with the best producer and package your product in the most appealing manner.
The big question at the end of the day is, do you really care about the impact your songs have on the community and the world at large?

As much as we blame politics and politicians for their role in development, the artiste must realise that he is also to blame for the state of the social and moral well- being of the people of the world.
The art of music was given to build us and not to destroy us.

As Zimbabwean musicians let’s guard against losing our values such as respect for life and others and even the environment in a bid to show the world we can.
