Letters to the Editor: Investors should respect our culture

Eddious Masundire Shumba

Although we all know that Zimbabwe needs foreign investors to come and open their businesses in the country it is so disappointing to see that some of these foreign employers do not respect our cultures.

This has not gone down well with locals where these foreign companies are operating from.

There were some reports in some provinces where these people were destroying some traditional areas such as caves, mountains, graves traditional shrines as well as worshipping places while doing their activities.

The locals were against all the efforts to have their mountains destroyed even though they were assured that they would benefit from the money raised from the sale of precious stones dug from the sacred mountains.

Some villagers believe that if the mountain can be destroyed it will result in their area being cursed and there will be no rainfall every year if these people go ahead.

Many people are also not happy that these people do not develop the areas where they are operating their businesses from.

Most of the times they don’t even bother to fill the pits or holes which they would have created while searching for the minerals and this has caused our country not to look good.
