Liam Middleton on fire

Rugby Club as they are on top of the league standings and are aiming for promotion into the Aviva Premiership.
The Zimbabwean was appointed coach of the side at the beginning of the season from Hartpury College where he was in charge of the academy team.

At the weekend his side staged a big comeback from 16 points down to beat Cornish Pirates 37-33.
“We have had a rough few weeks at the club. There was a great deal of pressure on us as a squad and there were some harsh words spoken.
“All the way through this period we maintained enormous confidence in the group – we know what we’re capable of and it’s important to push on from here.

“Top spot is a great place to be, but it’s important to remember if we had lost we would be fifth. It shows how closely matched all the sides are.
“We will put some goals in place over the next five or six weeks to look at where we want to finish but I think the final month of the league season will prove critical,” said Middleton.

Middleton is one of the highest qualified coaches Zimbabwe has had in recent years.
The former Watershed College pupil has been in charge of the Cheetahs for over five years.

He told his club’s website that he has the kind of players that he needs.
“I’m full of praise for the team.

“(At the weekend), we looked the fitter side and that paid dividends in the end. The players showed unbelievable work ethic to turn the game around. We deserved that victory. It’s these sort of results that show the attitude and ability of the squad we are building.
“Obviously it would be nice to get into a situation where we can shut a team out. We need to start getting the first twenty minutes right and that’s something we’ll focus on fixing.

“I firmly believe we’re improving and learning as a team each week.
“When we put this squad together, we talked about getting the right people as well as the right players, and I think that’s possibly showing in some ways in this kind of game.
“I think the boys have shown character again,” Middleton said.
