Liberation war hero Chiriseri dies

Liberation war hero Cde Thomas Chiriseri has died.

He was 80.

Cde Chiriseri died on Tuesday at Harare Central Hospital where he had been taken for treatment.

Zanu-PF secretary for Administration Cde Ignatius Chombo said the President and First Secretary of Zanu PF, Cde Robert Mugabe, conferred liberation war hero status on Cde Chiriseri.

An ex-detainee, Cde Chiriseri, became involved in nationalist politics in the early 60s when he joined Zapu and worked with nationalists that included the late Cde Leopold Takawira and the late Vice President Simon Muzenda. His political involvement resulted in him being arrested in 1963 and detained at Gonakudzingwa together with other nationalists.

After independence, Cde Chiriseri continued his service to Zanu-PF until the time of his death.

He is survived by his two wives Jerina and Loveness and 10 children.

Mourners are gathered at house Number 2596 Jerusalem, Highfield, Harare.
