LIBERATION war hero Cde George Munyama who passed on last week was laid to rest this afternoon at the Manicaland Provincial Heroes Acre.
Minister of State for Manicaland Provincial Affairs and Devolution, Advocate Misheck Mugadza desscribed the late Cde Munyama as a dedicated patriot who served the national call by joining the liberation struggle in Mozambique in 1976.
“Cde George Munyama embodied courage, loyalty, humility, and patriotism. He answered the call of history when his country needed him most, nurtured and guided his family with wisdom and love and dedicated his life to the service of Zimbabwe and for the love Zimbabwe. His life was testament to selflessness, sacrifice and unwavering devotion to our motherland. As we lay him to rest at this scared shrine, we are reminded that the freedom we enjoy today was not freely given but was earned through the blood, sacrifice and determination of gallant sons and daughters like Cde Munyama. His legacy calls upon all of to remain united, patriotic and committed to building a prosperous Zimbabwe. Let us honour his memory not only through words but through deeds by safeguarding the independence he fought for, defending the sovereignty he protected and striving to build a Zimbabwe that reflects the aspirations of the liberation generation,” he said.
Family representative, Mr Fungai Munyama thanked the Government for according his brother the coveted status.
Cde Munyama, whose war name was Cde Mike Hama, jwas trained at Nachingwea and Romania. He was attested into the Zimbabwe National Army in 1981 and retired in 2004.
