Liberation war hero Mvukwe buried

Liberation war hero Cde Saul Mvukwe, who died on Tuesday and was declared a provincial hero, was buried at the Harare Provincial Heroes Acre yesterday.
Cde Mvukwe, who suffered incarceration in 1963 for his role in motivating youths in Harare district to take up arms against colonial rule, has been described as an unwavering patriot.

Speaking at the burial, Minister of State for Harare Metropolitan Province, Cde Miriam Chikukwa, said the late Cde Mvukwe was a dedicated liberation war hero.

She hailed Cde Mvukwe for his role in the struggle and urged people to emulate such behaviour.

Minister Chikukwa said death was entirely decided by God and no one could claim that they can cause it.

Cde Mvukwe joined the Central Intelligence Organisation after independence and was sent to China and Romania for further training.

He was born on September 5 1954 and did his primary and secondary education at Muzokomba and Chikore schools.

Cde Mvukwe crossed into Mozambique in 1975 to join the liberation struggle. He received military training and was sent to the front where he operated in the Gaza sector.

He is survived by wife Norah and six children. — Herald Reporter/ZBC.
