Econet’s latest innovative solution, EcoSchool, has gone commercial. This means that prospective users (mainly tertiary education students) will be able to subscribe by registering at an approved Econet shop.
After completing registration and payment, they will receive the EcoSchool tablet and register the account on the EcoSchool app.
Once registered, they can explore a variety of rich content resource.
EcoSchool hopes that through the use of the latest technology such as learning apps and eBook this solution will significantly boost the country’s education systems.
“Its critically important that as students from across Africa become more digitally literate that we are focused on how we treat our ways of educating them to make sure they have quality information and education on the go.
“Beyond that we also need to look at how technology affects our lives and how we interact with technology. I don’t think education should be missing out,” Teresa Mbajaya, the head of Econet Education said.
EcoSchool was launched at the University of Zimbabwe for Health Science Students’ six months ago.
The EcoSchool platform allows for the collection of thousands of books, used by students in African schools, colleges and universities as well as course material and put them, on a platform where they can be accessed on a special, low cost tablet called the “EcoSchool tablet”.
Econet says the feedback they got from the students who took part in the pilot stage made the product better.
The pilot project was limited to specified students at the University of Zimbabwe College of Health Sciences.
Students participating in the pilot project paid $5 a month for access to the tablet the etextbook platform and allocated data.
“What was only available at the pilot stage was the library. We have since partnered a number of partners to extend our content and we are unveiling world class modules,“ said Teresa. – CL Reporter
