LIONS Club of Khumalo yesterday officially handed over a classroom block and furniture to Trenance Primary School in Bulawayo. Speaking at the ceremony deputy provincial education director for Bulawayo Metropolitan province, Mr Richard Swene praised the club’s support in ensuring the improvement of the school’s learning environment.
“I appreciate the assistance you have given the school pupils with the new classroom block, paying of fees, issuing of school uniforms and weekly feeding of the disadvantaged,” said Mr Swene.
He urged the club and school to continue with their efforts alongside parents in providing a suitable educational environment.
The school headmistress, Mrs Dorris Mashingaidze, expressed gratitude for the club’s continued support to the school.
“Lions Club of Khumalo donated over $18000 towards the block and material to construct another toilet block.
“The Government provided us with $5 000 through the provincial educational director to refurbish our classes and toilets. Public Works carried out all the work at the school,” said Mrs Mashingaidze.
The president of Lions Club of Khumalo, Mrs Thembi Zulu, said her club was proud to be associated with Trenance Primary.
“We have had help from well wishers in the UK like Zimbabwe Agricultural Welfare Trust who contributed towards the funds as well as donors from France, Australia and New Zealand.
“Children’s First International assisted us with $3 000 to buy new desks, benches and teachers’ tables for the new classroom,” said Mrs Zulu.
