09.28 – All is set for the official opening of the 7th SADC Industrialisation Week by President Mnangagwa at the Harare International Conference Centre (HICC) this morning.
09.28 – The 7th SADC Industrialisation Week (SIW) kicked off on Sunday and is running under the theme, “Promoting Innovation to Unlock Opportunities for Sustainable Economic Growth and Development Towards an Industrialised SADC.”

09.28 – SIW is the precursor to the 44th SADC Heads of State and Government to be held on 17 August in Harare, where President Mnangagwa will assume the Chairmanship of the regional bloc.

09.49 – Industry and Commerce Minister Mangaliso Ndhlovu is now giving opening remarks. He says the hosting of the SIW marks an important milestone in the industrialisation of the region and serves as a vital platform for fostering trade and investment relations in the SADC region.He urges all participants to foster collaborations in research and manufacturing. He concludes his remarks by inviting all visiting delegates to visit the country’s tourist attractions.

0953 – Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Trade Ambassador Frederick Shava is now on the podium giving remarks. Minister Shava commends the organisers of the SADC Industrialisation Week for a job well done. He says the theme, “Promoting Innovation to Unlock Opportunities for Sustainable Economic Growth and Development Towards an Industrialised SADC” goes hand in hand with the international ecosystem which is now focusing on the promotion of innovation.

09.58 – He says Zimbabwe is playing it’s part in promoting Industrialisation through the formulation of the National Industrialisation Strategy. 10.16 – SADC Executive Secretary Mr Elias Magosi is now giving his remarks. Mr Magosi starts by expressing his gratitude to President Mnangagwa for honouring the invitation to come and open the 7th SIW and says this demonstrates his commitment to the development of the industry in the region. 10.32 – VP Chiwenga says the Industrialisation Week boosts intra-trade and economic cooperation within the SADC region. He says the theme of the SIW augurs well with President Mnangagwa’s vision which focuses on the promotion of innovation. He says President Mnangagwa’s philosophy of leaving no one and no place behind has been a game changer as it has led to the development of the whole country.
10.36 – He invites President Mnangagwa to deliver his keynote address.
10.37 – President Mnangagwa starts his speech by commending the SADC secretariat and its local partners for putting together a splendid event. He says the Industrialisation Week is important as it promotes intra-Africa trade. He says there is need for all countries’ national development agendas to be in sync with the development agenda in the region.



10.49 – His Excellency says that it is critical to scale up domestic and regional value chains in order to be competitive on the global market.

10.51 – The President says the country has adopted Education 5.0 which has led to the development of innovation hubs which are now producing various goods. He calls for the promotion of innovations by youths.

10.56 – President Mnangagwa says Governments should provide funds for research and development of capacity programmes that equip our local people to produce. He calls for the promotion of innovations in ICT and machinery. President Mnangagwa says there is need for innovative financing models in order to promote industrialisation in the region.
