09.37 – President Mnangagwa will this morning preside over the burial of the late national hero Brigadier-General (Rtd) Dr Michael Chaminuka at the National Heroes Acre in Harare. 09.43 – Vice President Dr Constantino Chiwenga has arrived at the National Heroes Acre.

10.05 – President Mnangagwa has arrived at the National Heroes Acre for the burial of national hero Brigadier-General (Rtd) Dr Michael Chaminuka.




10.16 – National hero Brigadier-General (Rtd) Dr Michael Chaminuka’s body has arrived at the national shrine in Harare.






10.43 – His Excellency starts with salutations. He says the passing on of Brig-Gen Chaminuka is a huge blow as the country has lost a dedicated and patriotic cadre.

10.44 – He expresses deepest and heartfelt condolences to the Chaminuka family. He also expresses heartfelt condolences posthumously to the Mutanda family following the death of Bri-Gen Lameck Mutanda who died in UK.

10.48 – He is now chronicling the pre-independence political life of Brig-Gen (Rtd) Chaminuka. He says the late national hero took part in students’ politics after being outraged by the racially inspired inequalities that were synonymous with the brutal Rhodesia minority regime.

10.49 – He later crossed to Mozambique in 1977 where he undertook a medical training course under the tutorship of Dr Sydney Sekeramayi.
10.50 – On completion, he was deployed to what was then known as the National Pharmacy where all medicines were received, tested for possible poisonous substances, stored and some dispatched to the operational front. At the National Pharmacy, Cde Chaminuka worked alongside members of the General Staff that included Comrades Zacks Kanouruka, Guy Medicine and Tito Kaufela. During ceasefire, Cde Chaminuka and his counterparts remained in Mozambique, at the National Pharmacy in case of another war outbreak.

10.51 – Soon after elections in 1980, Cde Michael Chaminuka returned home and joined other comrades at Echo Assembly Point in Nyanga where he briefly stayed. He later moved to Tongogara Assembly Point in Chipinge, where he was selected to join the Zimbabwe National Army.
He was attested into the Zimbabwe National Army on 5 January 1981.

10.52 – The able and committed Brigadier General held various appointments with competence and diligence during his industrious tour of duty in the Zimbabwe Defence Forces which include:
Desk Officer at Military Intelligence Directorate
Directing Staff at the Zimbabwe Staff College
Personal Staff Officer to the Commander Zimbabwe Defence Forces
Director Military Intelligence at Army Headuarters
Director Business Development at the Zimbabwe National Defence University
10 . 53 – The President challenges the youths to emulate the exemplary works of the late national hero. He says youths should know the country’s roots.

10.54 – He commends the Government for accelerating developmental works ahead of the hosting of the 44th Sadc summit at which Zimbabwe will assume the Chairmanship.
10.55 – President Mnangagwa has urged Zimbabweans to be friendly and accommodating to all visitors during the Sadc.

You stood firm for justice by defending and protecting the territorial integrity of Zimbabwe, through your loyal service in our Defence Forces. We will also remember your unflinching patriotism and for being selfless team players.”
