Liverpool have rejected a £30 million bid from Crystal Palace for 25-year-old striker Christian Benteke.
Palace offered £23 million up front with £7 million in add-ons but the Anfield club believe the bonus payments proposed were unrealistic.
Liverpool have been resolute in their demands to recoup the £32.5 million they paid Aston Villa for Benteke last summer and want more guaranteed payments as part of any deal.
Belgium international hitman Benteke endured a mixed campaign for Liverpool last season, scoring 10 times in 42 games in all competitions.
One of those goals was a last-gasp winner from the penalty spot against Palace, as the Reds won 2-1 away from home in March.
The match at Selhurst Park appeared to be heading for a draw until Benteke was awarded a penalty in stoppage time after a challenge from Palace defender Damien Delaney. — SportsMail
