Liverpool’s incredible comeback stuns Dortmund

Liverpool — Dejan Lovren completed an exhilarating Liverpool comeback in stoppage time to beat Borussia Dortmund 4-3 and earn manager Jurgen Klopp a Europa League semi-final place at the expense of his former club in the most dramatic manner on Thursday.

Liverpool had the edge going into the second leg after drawing 1-1 in Germany, but threw that advantage away in the opening nine minutes by sloppily conceding possession and allowing Henrikh Mkhitaryan and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang to score.

Divock Origi gave Liverpool a lifeline at the start of the second half, but Marco Reus restored Dortmund’s two-goal advantage. Liverpool didn’t give up, with Philippe Coutinho and Mamadou Sakho netting. At 4-4, Dortmund was set to advance on away goals until Lovren powered in the header a minute into injury time.

The Anfield encounter had all the unpredictability lacking in Ukraine where Shaktar Donetsk crushed Sporting Braga 4-0 to advance 6-1 on aggregate. Villarreal won at Sparta Prague 4-2 to go into the semi-final draw with a 6-3 aggregate win. Sevilla’s game against Athletic Bilbao went into extra time. — AP.
