THE Ministry of Local Government and Public Works convened a strategic planning workshop today at a hotel in Bulawayo, focusing on reviewing performance from 2024 and establishing objectives for 2025.

Delegates have taken their seats, awaiting the arrival of key officials, including Ministers Daniel Garwe and Judith Ncube, Permanent Secretaries Dr John Basera and Mr Paul Nyoni, and Chief Mtshane Khumalo, President of the Chiefs Council from Bubi district in Matabeleland North.

A significant discussion point on Day Four of the workshop will be the draft presentation of the 2025 Strategic Review Report, alongside the annual plan draft and performance contracts for the Permanent Secretary, the Minister, and his deputy.

Following the keynote address, delegates will delve into several topics, including an overview of the Integrated Result Based Management (IRBM), facilitated by the Public Service Commission. Additionally, the Ministry of Finance, Economic Development, and Investment Promotion will present a progress review of the National Development Strategy 1 (NDS1) and the national economic outlook.

Permanent Secretary Dr John Basera will open the workshop by outlining its key objectives.

Bulawayo’s Minister of State for Provincial Affairs and Devolution, Judith Ncube, officially will welcome delegates to the city.

The workshop will assess local authorities’ compliance with President Mnangagwa’s “Call to Action: No Compromise to Service Delivery” blueprint, mandated last November. All 92 local authorities were required to submit their masterplans by June 30, and the workshop aims to evaluate the progress of these implementations.

This annual workshop is integral to broader initiatives under the Second Republic, aimed at enhancing economic development under NDS1, which is set to transition to NDS2. The event is crucial for empowering local governments to fulfil national expectations and improve service delivery across Zimbabwe.
