THREE Zimbabwean football instructors, Bryton Malandule, Brighton Mudzamiri and Faith Mutumwa have completed a high-level Fifa Futuro III instructors’ course.
The trio were part of the African referees’ instructors that attended a four-day virtual course from August 16-19.
Fifa’s referee development officer for Africa Jerome Damon from South Africa was the programme’s main facilitator and was assisted by renowned former top Zimbabwean referee Felix Tangawarima and Effam Abbelfatah of Egypt.
Malandule, Mudzamiri and Mutumwa join Sabelo Maphosa, Edson Nkau and Kenny Marange among the local Fifa Futuro III instructors.
Retired referee Ruzive Ruzive is also in line for the Fifa Futuro III certificate.
“The whole of Africa participated in the just ended high-level Fifa Futuro III course. As Zimbabwe, we had to provide three officials. Fifa is keen on gender balancing hence Mutumwa’s inclusion. Sabelo (Maphosa) was the only female with the qualification and we thought of capacitating others,” said Malandule, the Zifa Referees Committee chairperson.
Among topics covered in the course were amendments to the hand ball law, the latest content delivery platform designed by Fifa for easy facilitation and referees’ education development (RED).
“RED makes it easy to get teaching material for instructors. There are videos uploaded for modern ways of teaching for instructors. Basically, what instructors do is familiarise themselves with new technology as football has developed. It will be difficult for those who are not familiar with IT to conduct courses,” said Malandule.
