THE Victoria Falls Sports Tourism Festival, which was postponed last month, has been rescheduled to September 25 and 26.

The festival is being organised by Sports Tourism Incorporation in collaboration with the Zimbabwe Tourism Authority (ZTA), Zim Bho #Zim Yami, #vakatsha, Zimparks as well as the Sports and Recreation Commission (SRC).

It was postponed last month following a spike in Covid-19 cases countrywide.

The event will have golf, tennis, aerobics, a marathon and mountain biking.

“It’s shaping up and we are ready to go,” said event co-ordinator Malvin Kanjere.

The tournament’s major objective is to promote brand Zimbabwe through sports tourism.

Ephraim Mashingaidze, the golf classic coordinator, said the tournament was important in promoting health and wellness, networking and sports tourism.

“The Victoria Falls Sports Tourism Golf Classic tournament is open to all, men and ladies, amateurs, professionals, juniors, pensioners and social golfers.

“There is a great opportunity for this golf tournament to grow in future. The hosting of such events in our prime tourism destination lays bare the need for stakeholders to develop good sporting facilities in these areas,” said Mashingaidze.

The festival will also become an annual event, with more sports being included, according to the organisers.
