ZIMBABWE Handball Federation president Amon Madzvamuse says the upcoming coaching course to be held in Qatar next week will go a long way in the development of the sport in this country.
Four coaches — Allan Mandeya (Manicaland), Clemence Tauro (Mashonaland East), Sipho Mahlangu (Matabeleland South) and Farai Gwisai (Midlands) — are set for leave for Doha, Qatar today for the course.
They are expected to return home next Wednesday.
They will be led on the trip by ZHF secretary-general Alphios Magiya, who is the chef-de-mission and Madzvamuse, who will attend a congress to be held during the same period.
The four coaches were selected at national level to represent the country and will be attending the global coaching course that has been held every year since 2012.
The trip and the course are being facilitated by the International Handball Federation.
Madzvamuse said the course was a huge leap forward in as far as handball development was concerned in Zimbabwe.
“This is really a positive development in as far as handball development is concerned and a success for us as an association.
“Our efforts in being competitive regionally and internationally are finally paying off.
“The knowledge they (the coaches) will acquire will help improve our play because after that they are not going to remain idle, but will be developing the playing skills of our teams, especially the national teams.
“Once our coaches complete this course, then they will be eligible to coach anywhere in Africa because they will be awarded a world class certificate. That is a huge achievement on their part.
“This course will not only benefit handball locally, but in the region as well.
“It is also our hope that after the course is completed our teams will benefit a few new techniques, making them more competitive than they were last season,” said Madzvamuse.
