Sakubva-based music producer and disc jockey is set to open a studio, intended to benefit upcoming talent in Zimdancehall. Macfarlene Matemba (22), affectionately known as Russ Macaz, mainly produces instrumental rhythms and mix tapes which have been enjoyed by those who usually attend his shows at the Courtauld Theatre.

“I intend to open my own studio called Maadsoundz Records, which will be home for Zim-dancehall artistes especially those who are still trying to find their feet in the music industry.

“I am still running around for the best equipment so that I will deliver the best to my abilities. I am also working on producing music for artistes in other genres. At the moment, I am working with Carltrizzy who is into Hip hop,” he said.

Asked why he is targeting raw talent, Russ Macaz said the upcoming artistes are being taken for granted so much so that many a time, great talent goes unnoticed.

“People tend to prefer renowned artistes to the upcoming ones and that is a disadvantage.

“Through this studio, I believe things are going to change for the better, with more people paying attention to new talent,” said Russmacaz.

The DJ Staera-inspired producer is a former First Class Academy student and boasted of being the first to get new dancehall tunes before passing them on to other artistes, adding that that has earned him the nickname Russ Macaz ‘wemafresh’.
