A local private school — Leadermold Entrepreneurship College — has broken new ground by equipping their laboratories with Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Mathematics (STEAM) starter kits that will enable the institution to groom their learners in Artificial Intelligence (AI) and robotics.
Congruent to Government’s Science Technology Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) thrust, anchored on the Education 5.0 Policy, Leadermold Entrepreneurship College entered into a partnership with Africa Asia Youth Foundation (AAYFO) in which AI experts will groom learners on the use of the STEAM gadgets.
Leadermold Entrepreneurship College director, Mr Farai Magombedze said the programme revolves around developing computer programming (coding) skills and setting up appropriate electronic circuits that receive signals from computer applications.
Mr Magombedze said the initiative is meant to contribute towards Government’s Vision 2030 of being an upper middle class economy by giving learners exposure to modern technology and preparing them to start enterprises that align with the 4th industrial revolution.
“We are taking Education 5.0 Policy to a higher level by introducing STEAM starter kits that will enable us to groom learners in AI and robotics.
“These are the same kits that are currently in use in the developed world.
“The partnership with AAYFO will see our learners being placed in clubs where they will be mentored.
“Through this, children will learn to solve real life problems using AI, learn drone technology and also participate in exchange programmes with institutions that also offer AI and robotics in other countries.
“In the learning process, learners will develop prototypes and models that can be applied in solving automated irrigation systems, simulating traffic lights and automated gates and other applications.
“Our ultimate aim is to mould young entrepreneurs into global entrepreneurs who can develop their own inventions and have intellectual property rights to products that can command international respect and markets through use of the internet,” said Mr Magombedze.
