Love in the train

LOVE in the train! The National Railways of Zimbabwe has decided to bring lovers together this Valentines by introducing a special treat for lover through a package called Valentine Steam Safari Leisure Trains.The programme to be running from the 13th to the 16th of this month is aimed at promoting tourism and family leisure travel.

The Valentine Sashay stream trains would be running in Harare, Bulawayo and Victoria Falls. In a statement, NRZ public relations manager, Fanuel Masikati said the steam train programme is aimed at giving loved ones a memorable train travel to various destinations.

“In Bulawayo, a belated Valentines Sashay train will depart from Bulawayo station on 16 February at 1600hrs to Figtree, after which the loved ones will be treated to a sumptuous dinner upon its return at the museum at 2100hrs,” said Masikati.

He urged those intending to board this special train to arrive at the station at 1500hrs to facilitate travel arrangement, such as registration and bookings.

In Harare, the train is scheduled to depart for Ruwa  Club on 13 February at 1600hrs for a dinner and expected back at 2100hrs the same day and another train will be heading to Victoria Falls on the same day.

Masikati said this memorable experience is aimed at rekindling memories of yesteryear with loved ones.
“The public may wish to know that this is a romantic experience of a lifetime not to be missed by leisure lovers who will indeed enjoy the breath-taking scenery along the way to various destinations, on board the special rail leisure trains that will be pulled by age defying steam locomotives in an exclusive and unique style,” he said.

The rail leisure steam safari train service was successfully run last year during the Valentines and Father’s Day celebrations. Masikati said bookings were already open at the Harare and Bulawayo stations during weekdays.

He said the fare for the Valentine leisure train from Bulawayo to Figtree is $75, Bulawayo to Victoria Falls $200 and Harare to Ruwa $100 per couple.

“The fare includes dinner under candle light and drinks that would be served at the Railway Museum, Ruwa Club as well as on board to Victoria Falls.

Furthermore, there will be lots of entertainment and this is a special experience not to be missed by those intending to sample the comfort of rail leisure in a special way,” he said.

He added that more steam safari trains are earmarked to be run this year as a way of promoting and contributing to the domestic tourism growth in the country.
