ZANU-PF Midlands provincial secretary for finance Cde John Holder yesterday bemoaned the low turnout by people in the province to register to vote in harmonised elections next year. Over 272 000 people have so far registered in Midlands under the Biometric Voter Registration system. The Zimbabwe Electoral Commission has registered more than two million people countrywide at the moment. Addressing a provincial coordinating meeting on Wednesday, Cde Holder urged party structures to start mobilising people to register as voters.
“The low figures of people who have registered so far in the province is worrying. People are not registering and this can cost the party if we do not act now,” he said.
Cde Holder said for Zanu-PF to win it needed more votes hence to need for the party leaders in the province to up their sleeves.
“It is everyone’s duty to encourage people to go and register as voters. An election is won through the number of people who cast their vote. The figures we have at the moment are pathetic,” he said.
Cde Holder said there was a very low turnout in cities and towns.
“What is disturbing is that Gweru City, our provincial capital, has only registered just above 4 000 voters so far while a Zvishavane has 27 000 people registered so far,” he said
