LUZIBO Tabona “Luchi Shiki” Moyo is not just the legendary musician, frontman of the legendary Black Umfolosi ensemble Sotja Moyo’s daughter. She’s a multi-faceted artiste treading between music, dance, visual art and authorship.

Proving her dynamic artistic range, the creative powerhouse has officially returned to the musical spotlight with a new single titled “Senhliziyo.” The track is a powerful declaration of love that showcases her creative independence while intentionally celebrating the immense depth of local female talent.

The single serves as the lead track for her highly anticipated second studio project, the “High On Oxy Vol. 2 EP,” which is slated for release later this year. “Senhliziyo” sees Luchi Shiki collaborating with two of Bulawayo’s most remarkable female vocalists: Stacey “Holy Stacey” Selman Hall and Nomazulu “Noma Music” Mguni.

The “Senhliziyo” production team seamlessly blends performance, sound engineering, and imagery to deliver a complete artistic vision. The track relies on a powerful vocal trio consisting of Luchi Shiki, Noma, and Holy Stacey, whose voices are backed by a rich sonic production featuring beats by Jay Twenny8 alongside precise mixing and mastering by Fuel The Don. To round out the project, the dynamic release is paired with a polished visual treatment through a forthcoming music video shot and edited by the creative minds at RaeReeVisuals and Humor Doc TV.

For Luchi Shiki, the collaboration is both a narrative strategy and the fulfillment of a long-held musical aspiration.

“I wanted a song that celebrated commitment, especially as the ending of volume 2. It is a beautiful hint towards themes in Volume 3,” Luchi Shiki shared. “The second reason was that I’ve always wanted to be in an R&B girl group, so this was a cheat code to that. I think Noma, Holy Stacey, and myself have the right blend for a song like that. Both ladies are amazing songwriters and vocalists, and I know they’d be perfect for my dream 90’s type R&B girl group.”

To bring this sonic vision to life, she reunited with her trusted production team. The track features crisp production from Jay Twenny8, with precision mixing and mastering handled by Fuel The Don.
The duo is no stranger to Luchi Shiki’s unique sound, having previously engineered some of her biggest career hits, including Ingoma KaMa and Lilizela.

The sonic experience will soon be accompanied by a polished music video. Shot and edited by RaeReeVisuals in collaboration with Humor Doc TV, the visual asset is locked in post-production and scheduled for official release in due course.

Lyrically, the track moves away from fleeting modern romances, diving headfirst into the raw emotional landscape of deep emotional vulnerability. Luchi Shiki noted that the ultimate spark for the track came from her own personal experiences.

“’Senhliziyo’ was inspired by that feeling of wanting to fully commit to your partner. I’ve experienced what it’s like to decide to be fully committed to your partner. That moment when you can’t deny your love for them anymore. I really wanted to share how it feels to want to commit to a person. You see them in your dreams and even in reality that they’re a priority. You see them everywhere and you don’t want to see anything else. You’re willingly taking in all you know about this person and calling it worthy of your commitment. I know I can’t be the only one who’s felt that, so this song is for those people too,” she explained.

The song’s sonic narrative arcs beautifully balance two different emotional realities: while Luchi Shiki and Holy Stacey deliver the perspective of complete, absolute commitment to a chosen partner, Noma Music masterfully introduces a contrasting layer by highlighting the internal insecurities and anxieties that individuals often face prior to committing fully.

Rather than keeping the track one-dimensional, the deliberate curation of the trio allowed the vocalists to unpack different layers of romantic relationships. While Luchi Shiki and Holy Stacey lean into complete surrender, Noma’s verse injects a dose of refreshing reality.

“Noma had a beautiful train of thoughts moment. Her lyrics were questioning the idea of committing and showing some of the insecurities we have before committing. ‘Is this person down for me like I am for them?’ Which is the second reason why this song is meaningful for me. I got to curate a trio that would tell a full story. I love collaboration, especially with fellow women, so this is so cool because they both killed their parts vocally and lyrically. I knew they’d both deliver,” Luchi Shiki pointed out.

Ultimately, the single stands as a proud, defiant anthem for old-school romance in a digital world.

“The overall message of this song is to love wholeheartedly. Commit yourself shamelessly. There’s nothing wrong with monogamy. There’s nothing wrong with wanting to be with one person forever. This is the kind of song you dedicate to that person you see in your future,” she concluded.

The release of “Senhliziyo” further establishes Luchi Shiki as one of the region’s most restless and versatile contemporary forces. Moving effortlessly across creative disciplines, her musical output represents only one facet of her current output.

Earlier this year, the multidisciplinary creator expanded her portfolio into the literary world with the publication of her new book, “Give Way: An Anthology of Bus Journeys.” Whether through the pages of her anthology or the dense harmonies of her new single, Luchi Shiki continues to prove that she is carving out a massive legacy entirely her own. – Follow on X @MbuleloMpofu
