adminHARARE. — The national team disciplinary committee met in Bulawayo (yesterday), to consider the case of all-rounder Luke Jongwe, who was accused of breaking the team curfew. Jongwe pleaded guilty and apologised to the national team coach and management for his behaviour which he said was unbecoming someone in camp to represent their country.
The committee took into consideration Jongwe’s plea.
It also considered that the 19-year old is a first offender, and that he had otherwise settled well into the team and showed that with his debut performance in the first One-Day International (ODI) match against the touring South Africa, at the Queens Sports Club in Bulawayo.
The former Zimbabwe under-19 vice-captain, who made 19 runs, was one of only five Zimbabwe batsmen who went into double figures.
However, the committee pointed out that the violation of a team code is a serious offence.
It fined Jongwe his match fee from the first ODI. — zimcricket.
