The Rock & Roll Hall of Fame has officially unveiled its Class of 2026, and it is a masterclass in musical diversity.
Announced live on “American Idol” on Monday, April 13, this year’s inductees span the high-octane energy of Britpop and heavy metal to the smooth sounds of R&B.
Leading the charge is Phil Collins, who achieves double inductee status for his massive solo career after previously being inducted with Genesis, and the late Luther Vandross, the legendary “Velvet Voice”, who enters the Hall in his first year of eligibility.
“Obviously, I’m pleased and honoured to be inducted. It wraps up what has been a wonderful life in music,” shared Collins on Instagram.
Joining them in the Performer Category are Oasis, whose induction follows their massive 2025-2026 reunion tour, and Nigerian-British chanteuse Sade, recognised for her timeless, sophisticated blend of soul and jazz.
The 2026 class also honours the architects of the new wave of British heavy metal, Iron Maiden, alongside punk-pop icon Billy Idol.
In a landmark move for hip hop, the Wu-Tang Clan enters as a collective, while the seminal post-punk and synth-pop legacies of Joy Division/New Order are celebrated through a joint induction.
Beyond the headliners, the Hall is recognising pioneers who shaped the foundations of the industry.
The Early Influence Award will be presented to Celia Cruz, Fela Kuti, Queen Latifah, MC Lyte and Gram Parsons. Meanwhile, the Musical Excellence Award honours the behind-the-scenes brilliance of Linda Creed, Arif Mardin, Jimmy Miller and Rick Rubin, with the Ahmet Ertegun Award being posthumously granted to Ed Sullivan. With a distinctively British flavour and a major spotlight on the golden era of hip hop, the Class of 2026 stands as one of the most eclectic in the Hall’s history.
“Induction into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame is music’s highest honour. We look forward to celebrating these remarkable artists at this year’s ceremony, it’s going to be an unforgettable night,” said John Sykes, chairman of the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame Foundation.
The official induction ceremony is scheduled for November 14, at the Peacock Theater in Los Angeles, where the living legends and the families of those lost will gather for an unforgettable night of performances and tributes – IOL.
